Union County, North Carolina

Established in 1842, Union County originated from parts of both Mecklenburg and Anson counties, deriving the name Union as a compromise between the political factions vying to name the new county. Today, it is one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina, providing a unique blend of rural and metropolitan lifestyles. While having vast swaths of nature untouched by development, the County also has areas flourishing in suburban and industrial growth. The primary factors contributing to Union's economic growth are agriculture, business, and industry. Situated in the south central piedmont area of North Carolina the population is estimated at 201,292 at the 2010 census with approximately 643 square miles of land.
