Located in between the interstates in the Charlotte Region (I-485, I-85 and I-77) and I-95 to the east, Union County is well positioned for easy access to any business destination along the east coast. Also, within Union County there is a strong network of roadways, such as US Highways 74 and 601 which allow for direct routes both East-West and North-South, respectively.
The Monroe Connector / Bypass is a 19.7-mile long new location roadway from US 74 at I-485 in eastern Mecklenburg County to US 74 between the towns of Wingate and Marshville in Union County. The Bypass is intended to provide an alternate route for trucking across the county, thereby alleviating local traffic concerns, and it is anticipated for NC DOT to resume its work on final designs and right of way acquisition in late 2013, pending approval of a new Record of Decision.
